Teresa Yen has been a "Friend of St Theresa" for three years. One of the sisters had asked her if she would come help and she now comes thrice a week, from mass at 7.30 am to just after lunch at 12.30 pm. Asked why she volunteers, she said:

"It's to cheer the old people up. Some of them are very lonely and they want the companionship. They want you to acknowledge them. What I get out of this is the smile on their faces."

Danette Koh has been volunteering for two years and comes twice a week. She was apprehensive in the beginning, as she was not used to being with elderly people.

"But I tried it out and I like it. It gives me a lot of joy and I tell myself that it's so fortunate to have a family. After a while you get attached to them," she said.
